05 May 10
Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) is hosting a glamorous event to launch its new commercial hair, beauty and holistic therapies salon.
The Transform Salon and Spa launch event will take place on Monday 17 May from 6 – 8pm at the College’s new campus on Knutton Lane.
More than 200 local hair and beauty professionals have been invited to buy a ticket for the event, which will have a 1980s theme. Net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
Jane Brentnall, Curriculum Manager for Hair, Beauty and Holistic Therapies at the College, said: “I’m proud to say we now have one of the best teaching and learning environments in the country with salons that equal those you’d find on most high streets.”
Ms Brentnall added: “With talented and motivated students, a professional and creative staff team and the support of our industry partners, I’m confident that the new salon will be a resounding success.”
The highlight of the launch event will be an 80s themed hair, beauty and fashion show – called ‘NU WAVE’ – which will feature hair designs by current and former hairdressing students from the College working alongside the technical team from AFFINAGE Salon Professional.
Ann Moon, AFFINAGE Area Account Manager UK, said of the new facilities: “I’m hugely impressed by the professional standard of the new salons, which must rank among the best in the country.”
Alan Ward, AFFINAGE Technical Team Manager, will be the show’s MC. Prior to the show, guests will be offered 80s themed refreshments and taken on tours around the new salons, while students demonstrate their work.
The models outfits are being styled by Andrea Sawyer-Hartley, Debenhams’ Personal Shopper, with assistance from the College‘s fashion students. The event is also being supported by Natalie at Elizabeth’s Florists.
Meanwhile internationally-acclaimed aromatherapy and skincare guru Eve Taylor OBE, founder of Eve Taylor™ Professional Aromatherapy Skin and Body Care, will be on hand with her team of Educators to offer free one-to-one skincare consultations.
Eve Taylor OBE commented: “Any student should be proud to work and study here. The equipment and facilities are fantastic and will help train the industry professionals of tomorrow.
“Attending college is the beginning of the journey. Some students will be therapists, some will travel or work in spas, some may go into the cosmetic industry, but the door to these careers is opened here at the College.”
She added: “You never stop learning, even when you’re qualified. I’m 78, but I learn new things every day!”
