Students grill local politicians

02 March 10

Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) is giving its students the rare chance to grill local politicians at its version of the popular BBC programme Question Time.

The event, organised in partnership with CSV Youth Action Project, will take place this Friday 5 March at 11.15am in the 200-seat auditorium at the College’s new campus on Knutton Lane.

Lynsey Shearsmith, Learner Participation Coordinator at the College, said: “Question time at NULC is a great way to get our students thinking about local and national government issues that affect their everyday lives.”

“The students will be given the chance to ask questions, voice concerns and express their opinions about national government policies.”

Confirmed attendees include Robert Jenrick (Conservative), Nigel Jones (Liberal Democrats), Professor Andrew Dobson (Green Parliamentary Candidate 2005) and Paul Farrelly (Labour).

The event will be hosted by the College’s long-serving Assistant Principal and Clerk to the Corporation, Michael Wilmott, who will be retiring at the end of this month.
