Lights out at Liverpool Road
The lights at Newcastle-under-Lyme College’s (NULC) Liverpool Road campus have been switched off for the final time this week.
The former site of Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) has now officially been handed over to major supermarket retailer Sainsbury’s who will be building a new superstore on the site.
Michael Willmot, Assistant Principal and Clerk to the Corporation, was asked to mark the event.
He said: “In some ways it’s sad to be switching the lights out for the last time in a building which has served thousands of students over more than 40 years, but the lights are now shining in our brand new college and all of us who have seen the building are delighted by the superior facilities it provides and the exciting new era it heralds for prospective students throughout the area.”
The Liverpool Road campus was first opened in 1966 and has helped several thousand local people gain skills and qualifications. The College re-opened yesterday at its brand new £60 million campus on Knutton Lane.
The College’s new address is Newcastle-under-Lyme College, Knutton Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 2GB. All contact numbers and email addresses will stay the same.
The new college was built thanks to substantial funding from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Advantage West Midlands (AWM).
