College helps future-proof companies

Newcastle-under-Lyme College is holding two advice events for local companies who are recruiting to junior positions or looking to improve the skills of existing employees in junior or trainee roles.
The events will be held at the college’s new Knutton Lane campus, starting at either 10am or 1pm on Monday 9 August.
At the events, local companies will get the opportunity to talk to the College’s expert training advisors in a range of sectors including professional services, construction, engineering, childcare, health and social care and hair and beauty.
Vicky Hudson, Head of Employer Training said: “At this time of year we often see companies advertising to take on school-leavers in junior positions - we have a wealth of motivated students looking for placements in offices, in childcare settings, in hair and beauty salons, and in engineering or construction companies.
Vicky continues: Our aim is to encourage local employers to invest in apprentices. In these difficult economic times, recruiting and training an apprentice could be a great way to help them to survive the recession but also emerge with more motivated, productive and highly-skilled staff”
Employers can choose to recruit an Apprentice as a permanent member of salaried staff, or to offer them a £95-a-week paid placement for the duration of the training programme. The Apprentice would take on a role in the organisation for 4 days a week and attend college one day each week to study for an NVQ relevant to their job role.
The College offers apprenticeships in accounting, business administration, customer service, retail, hairdressing, childcare, engineering, construction, IT, management and health and social care
