Karen Dobson – Principal and Chief Executive
Karen was appointed Principal in July 2004 having previously held the post of Director of Curriculum and Strategic Planning. Karen trained and worked in the NHS and moved into FE in 1989 as a Lecturer in Health and Social Care. After various roles at Stoke on Trent College she made the move to Newcastle in 2002. Karen has a Health Sciences degree from Coventry and an MBA from Keele University.
Craig Hodgson – Vice Principal, Finance and Corporate Developments
Craig is responsible for the College’s Finance, Corporate Developments, Information Services, Estates, Enterprise and Distance Learning activities. As the College is moving towards an exciting phase of new build, Craig is totally involved in ensuring that the project is implemented to meet the requirements of all parties concerned.
Ian Hookway – Director of Human Resources & Communications
As Director of HR and Communications Ian is responsible for all aspects of the College’s Human Resources functions, Marketing and PR and Learning Resources, and ensuring that all layers of staff across the College are fully engaged with and aware of the College’s strategic objectives.
David Matthews – Director of Learner Engagement and Partnerships
The new Directorate of Learner Engagement and Partnerships includes responsibility for Key Skills, Tutorials, Additional Learning Support, Tutorials, Learner Services and the 14-19 Curriculum. The learner voice and learner involvement are key priorities for the College.
Alex Ellis – Director of Curriculum Innovation
Previously the Head of the Faculty of Art and Creative Studies, Alex is now responsible for the development and updating of the College’s curriculum offer to ensure it remains exciting and stimulating. His role includes promoting innovation in teaching and learning practice to produce outstanding results and growth in the College’s provision.
