Training to help you get on at work

On-the-job training - no hassle, no cost and no college attendance required

At Newcastle-under-Lyme College, we recognise the importance of the skills you’ve built up through years of life and work experience. Our work-based NVQ courses enable you to get recognition for the skills you use every day in your job, achieving formal qualifications at the same time. For most of our work-based training, assessment is carried out in your workplace - so you don’t need to come into college or take exams. Instead, an Assessor visits you at work and identifies the tasks you do in your everyday job that meet the requirements of the NVQ qualification. They then help you to identify any new skills you need to develop and work with your employer to find work scenarios to test them.

NVQ courses enrol all year round. You can choose from a variety of subjects at Level 2 or 3:

NVQ Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A-C)

The NVQ Level 2 can be offered free to anyone aged 19 or over who has not yet achieved a Level 2 qualification (equivalent to 5 GCSEs grade A-C).

NVQ Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels)

In many cases, the NVQ Level 3 can be offered free of charge to people aged 19 -24 who haven't already achieved a qualification at Level 3 (equivalent to A Levels).

The College currently offers NVQ programmes in:
