“From the outset it was plain that the assessors had a great rapport with the employees and were particularly supportive to those whom this was their first educational experience since leaving school. The Level 2 course was a great success and I wholeheartedly endorse both the NVQ qualification and the means by which it was delivered. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to any prospective employer wishing to run a similar course in the future.” – Garry Warrilow, Training and Competence Leader (September 2011)

This has helped develop our shop floor skills, and assist the technicians in attaining in both PMO’s and MME’s. We are kept well up-to-date with courses available and we have been able to access courses which are relevant to both trained staff and other employees including NVQ training and short courses. "The ITQ qualification has enabled our staff to develop a wide range of new IT skills. As a result we now have a more efficient and competent team. It's fantastic that tutors come into our workplace at our convenience to deliver the course. Employees acquire valuable skills without having to spend too much time away from the office, whilst the business gains a more skilled and committed workforce, which can only be good news for the company in the long-term. This is a model of what a college to business partnership should be. We hope that this successful relationship with the College will continue into the future.” - Julie Spragg, HR Manager

“I initially contacted the college to find out about training for our staff on the shop floor. However, when I heard about the free on-the-job training I thought it would be an ideal development opportunity for office staff. Through doing the NVQ in Business Administration, they have had the chance to learn more about their role, evaluate both the good and the bad and find more efficient, better ways of working.” Martyn Steele, Galvanising Manager

“Two of my staff decided to do the Retail NVQs under the Train to Gain scheme and they’ve both really enjoyed it. Not only does it improve their skills, but it is also good for staff morale. When the assessor comes in it’s not at all disruptive. I’d happily recommend it to others.” Alison Smith, Store Manager
North Staffordshire Hospital
"Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital offered the Train to Gain initiative to all employees in conjunction with Newcastle-under-Lyme College. The process of implementing the scheme was simple. Once interest was established, a visit from the college was arranged for a group discussion regarding the types of courses available and what was involved. Once the individuals identified courses that they wanted to do it was referred to HR and management to ensure that there was a business need for the training. Training took place both on the job and through homework, with regular workplace visits to individuals from the College, which were tailored around the needs of the individual. Feedback from employees has been very positive, with them feeling re-invigorated and incentivised!" - Giovanna Hulse, HR Administrator
