NULC's Engineering courses offer you the chance to benefit from imaginative and motivational teaching, high quality learning resources and secure yourself a great start in your chosen career.
Preparation for employment
Our engineering department has excellent links with the local engineering industry and our lecturers have many years of experience.
If you wish to enter industry, one year of successful study can lead to employment as a trainee Engineering Technician, where your skills and knowledge would be further enhanced by in-company training. Further study is expected by employers, usually in the form of National Certificate courses on a day release basis.
In 2010, 100% of students who completed the First Year Engineering Training course were successful in securing employment within the engineering industry and are now working for companies including Lafarge Cement, Areva and Goodwin International.
Each year, an Awards event is held for the First Year Engineering Training course, which celebrates and rewards the achievements of students with an 'Improvement Award' and 'Achievement Award'.
Work experience placements can also be arranged within the engineering industry for students on the BTEC First and Extended Diploma in Engineering.
Progression to university
A BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering can lead to employment as a trainee Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Technician where your skills and knowledge will be further developed by in-company training in your chosen field. Employers will expect you to undertake further study, usually in the form of a Foundation degree in Engineering.
Former students of this course have also progressed on to degree courses at universities across the country. Typical university destinations are, Coventry, Loughborough and Staffs to study degrees in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
