What is a Career Academy?
A Career Academy is a two year programme for 16-19 year olds that aims to offer the unique chance to take part in a paid internship * while working towards a vocational BTEC Diploma qualification.
NULC offers Career Academies in the following areas:
- Health and Social Care
- Business and Finance
- STEM (Science and Maths)
You’ll develop business skills – including time management, interview techniques and public speaking – while gaining a nationally recognised qualification, enhancing your future education and career choices.
The Career Academy programme provides students with a unique blend of education and coaching. Successful applicants are given a work placement relevant to their chosen business sector. These companies range from small, innovative businesses to large multinational organisations.
As well as receiving expert teaching in the classroom, you’ll get help from business ‘gurus’ who will mentor you to help you blossom and fulfil your potential. They will provide additional advice and guidance to move you forward rapidly towards your objectives

What are the benefits of the Career Academy?
As a member of the Finance Career Academy you will benefit from:
- A six-week, high quality, paid internship * with a local company (where available) in the summer, tailored to your area of interest;
- One-to-one mentoring with a business representative, giving you an insight into their working life and direct support for your coursework;
- Guru Lectures that are given by volunteer professionals from industry. They may be subject specific or relevant to real working life;
- CV and application form development;
- and much more!
How do I apply?
The Career Academy programme is open to students who are accepted onto the following courses:
- BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE (Health and Social Care Academy)
- BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS (Business and Finance Academy)
- AS/A LEVELS IN ONE MATHS AND TWO SCIENCE subjects (STEM Academy)
You must meet the College’s minimum entry requirements for the above courses before you can apply for the Career Academy. Applicants will then be selected by an interview process on the basis of their dedication and skills.
