I want to be...A Solicitor!
“The lecturers have a passion for their subjects.”
Name: Colin Rogerson
Current Job: Assistant Solicitor at Dawson Cornwell
Studied at NULC: A Levels in Law (A), History (B), French (B), AS Level German (B)
“NULC is a great learning environment because it allows you to become more independent. It has a wide range of courses and the staff are extremely motivated; they clearly have a passion for teaching their subjects.
I was encouraged to study a degree in Law by my A Level lecturer and I’ve never looked back. NULC gave me a solid grounding to progress into my career. I went on to study for an LLB Law degree at Nottingham Trent University where I graduated with first class honours. This allowed me to complete the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School where I gained a distinction.
I recently qualified as a Solicitor and I now work for one of the leading international family law firms in London. I specialise in all cases of family law, but mainly international child abduction cases, custody disputes, surrogacy arrangements and adoption. I hope to remain in London and continue growing my experience and reputation within the field of international family law.”

I want to…Set-up my own Business!
“NULC was a dream because I was doing what I loved.”
Name: Joanna Nadin
Current Job: Owner of ‘Joanna Nadin Interiors’
Studied at NULC: BTEC Diploma in Art and Design (Merit)
“I loved going to college; it was a dream because I was doing what I loved. The lecturers were really enthusiastic and you were credited for being creative. You were surrounded by like-minded people and this created an exciting atmosphere; it was extremely motivating. After college I went on to study a BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Loughborough College of Art and Design. I missed college as the atmosphere was a lot more inspiring and you got a lot more support throughout your studies. Since graduating I’ve worked for interior design companies in Cheshire and London and decided to set up my own company called ‘Joanna Nadin Interiors’ in April 2011.

I want to be…A Holiday Representative!
“NULC helped me to reach my potential.”
Name: Dean Mattocks
Current Job: Holiday Representative
Studied at NULC: BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism
“When I left school my ambition was to travel and learn about the different holiday destinations, so I chose to study towards a qualification in travel and tourism at NULC. I enjoyed interacting with the public and I decided to take an extra qualification in customer service to improve my skills. The travel and tourism course gave me an in-depth insight into the industry, as well as some business-based aspects. It was very enjoyable and the tutors were really friendly and helped me to reach my potential. It’s hard work, but if you have enough passion for the subject, you will be rewarded. I’m now working as a Holiday Representative based in Zakynthos, Greece. My responsibilities include looking after holidaymakers in a number of different hotels and promoting excursions, as well as dealing with the financial information. My job allows me to interact with different people everyday whilst achieving my ambition of travelling the world and learning about different destinations.”

I want to be…A Teacher!
“NULC really did change my life!”
Name: Belinda Latimer
Current Job: Art and Design Teacher
Studied at NULC: A Levels in Photography (A), Art and Design (B) and BTEC Art and Design (Merit)
“I can honestly say that NULC changed my outlook on learning and being creative. It helped me to shape my own philosophy of teaching art. I knew the College had a fantastic reputation for art and design, and I really liked the atmosphere when I visited for the first time. The facilities inspired me to work hard and the staff had a lot of enthusiasm for our progression; there was a genuine sense that they wanted me to do well. After college, I went on to study a BA (Hons) in Crafts at Camberwell College of Arts in London. I then completed my second and third year of my degree locally at the Alsager Campus of Manchester Metropolitan University. I currently teach Art and Design, Graphics and Textiles at a High School. I have been teaching for ten years. I built my experience as a teacher by working with young people in community focused roles. I’m also in the process of setting up a Silversmithing workshop. I’m exactly where I want to be thanks to NULC. It opened my eyes to what can be achieved if you work hard.”
