Sport Academies
In addition to our two football academies the College also offers the following academies:
- Basketball;
- Netball;
- Athletics/Endurance;
- Rugby;
- Cricket.;
- Badminton (new for 2011/12);
- Volleyball (new for 2011/12).
Students will receive at least 5 hours of professional coaching each week and training takes place at the college campus on Knutton Lane, either using the Sports hall, 3G or grass pitches, fitness suite and dance studio.
The Academy programme will be overseen by the Academy of Sport Manager Trevor Humphreys, and each academy coach. Meet the team!
Training will include working on techniques and skills to develop the individual player and also work on tactics. Each individual will also receive their own technical programme to work to through a series of specific functional practices.
Training will also include fitness testing, resistance work, aerobic and anaerobic exercise as well as personal conditioning. Training may also involve from time to time using other facilities at the college including sports hall, dance studio and fully equipped gymnasium.
Matches will be played at the college’s Knutton Lane Campus on Wednesday afternoon’s. The teams will play in British College’s Sport West Midlands Leagues and national cups.
Players will also have access to qualified specialists and physiotherapists in the Sport and Exercise Science department at the college should they require treatment at any time.
Entry requirements for any Sports Academies would be:
• Suitable sport reference (from a club / coach)
• A good level of playing experience
• A student at Newcastle-under-Lyme College on a full-time course
