School v College
If you’re reading this the chances are you’re feeling nervous about the thought of college.
"How does it compare with school?"
"How will I fit in?"
"Where will it get me?”
At Newcastle-under-Lyme College, we understand that a school environment doesn’t suit everyone. You may be leaving school or have left already, feeling that the grades you achieved don’t reflect what you’re really capable of, or even that you’ll never get the qualifications other people seem to expect of you.
The difference with Newcastle-under-Lyme College is that we offer a really wide range of subjects at different levels, and we’re here to help you find what you’re good at and what works for you. Above all, we’ll help you make your own pathway to a successful life and career.
When you start here, we’ll welcome you as an individual with your own personal ambitions and needs. We sit down with you and agree a learning plan.
We find out what you want to achieve for yourself, any problems you might have, or any extra support you think you might need – and then your lecturers, your personal tutor and our student services team all work with you to help you get what you need from your time with us.
There are plus points compared with school, like; you call your tutor by their first name; you don’t have to wear a uniform; you’ll be respected as an adult who can take responsibility for yourself, and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people from all over Newcastle, Stoke and the surrounding areas.
College is a great place to meet new people in a new environment and gain valuable social skills. It’s a two way thing, though.
What we ask in return is that you come in to college for your lessons, work hard to achieve your own goals, and of course, respect the fact that Newcastle College is a clean, safe and friendly place to be and that’s the way we like to keep it!
If this sounds like the kind of place you want to be, use our course search to find a course that’s right for you.
