Apprenticeships at NULC!
An apprenticeship is a great way to start work while getting the training and qualifications you need to succeed in your chosen career.
We offer apprenticeships in a wide range of subjects. View all subject areas here.
Choose your level
There are three levels of study:
Entry Requirements: usually two GCSEs at grade C or above or an NVQ Level 1. The Apprenticeship leads to NVQ Level 2 plus Functional Skills and a Technical Certificate. The NVQ Level 2 is equivalent to five GCSEs at grade A* to C.
2. Advanced Apprenticeship
Entry Requirements: usually four or more GCSEs at grade C or above (there may be specific GCSE subjects and grades for some work areas) or successful completion of an Apprenticeship Programme.
The Advanced Apprenticeship leads to NVQ Level 3 plus Functional Skills and a Technical Certificate. The NVQ Level 3 is equivalent to two A Levels and can allow you to progress on to higher education programmes.
3. Higher Apprenticeship
Entry Requirements: you need to have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship or another relevant Level 3 qualification. The Higher Apprenticeship leads to an NVQ Level 4 with a Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if required.
Support from NULC
Starting an Apprenticeship is the first step in your career – but you don't have to do it alone. From day one, an Assessor will work with you to agree a learning plan, visit you at work, and be there every step of the way to ensure you succeed.
You will also have access to a wide range of services such as our Learning Resource Centre, offering computer and Internet access, as well as books, magazines and journals.
Our team of Student Welfare Officers can also help you throughout your time as an apprentice. They can talk to you over the phone, visit you at your workplace, or arrange appointments out of working hours if it suits you. They are trained to offer a helpful advice and support service, and can put you in touch with specialist help available to all our students.
Finding an Employer
If you are offered a place on an apprenticeship, we will work with you to help you find a placement with a local employer:
- We will put your name forward to employers we are in contact with, or who contact us;
- We will give you information and advice about how to approach employers for yourself;
- We may invite you to special events to meet suitable employers;
- We will contact and make all necessary arrangements with any employer you know who wishes to offer you an apprenticeship – just let us know their name and contact details;
- We may offer you a place on a 'programme led apprenticeship' if you do not find an employer before the college training starts.
