What else do I need to know?
The HNC will take two years to complete on a part time basis.
What are the entry requirements?
What qualifications would I need to join this programme? Newcastle under Lyme College will take appropriate steps to assess each applicant's potential and make a professional judgement about their ability to successfully complete the programme of study and achieve the qualification. This assessment will take account of the support available to the student within the college during their programme of study and any specific support that might be necessary to allow the student to access the assessment for the qualification.
For students who have recently been in education, the entry requirements for the award are normally:
a BTEC Level 3 qualification in a related subject
a GCE level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades A* to C
Other related Level 3 qualifications
an Access to Higher Education Certificate received from an approved further education institution
related work experience
How is it assessed?
Teaching, learning & assessment methods
Teaching, learning and assessment methods used to deliver this curriculum are designed to provide experience, and reflection and the development of concepts which can then be explored. Teaching methods used vary according to the nature of each unit, but include formal lectures, individual research projects and student centred activities. There will be access to small group teaching with high levels of teaching hours and individual support in facilitating this programme.
What financial support is on offer?
There are two types of loans to help students cover the costs of their higher education course in college: tuition fee loans and living cost loans (also called maintenance loans). You pay these loans back when you finish your course and earn over £21,000. If you earn £22,000 a year you'll repay £90 a year or £7.50 a month (nine per cent of the £1,000 earned above £21,000).
