A Caring College

Newcastle-under-Lyme College is extremely proud of the positive work we do in supporting young people who are, or have recently been in care.

We ensure that even prior to interview, the young person / carer / agency has a named point of contact for any issues that may arise. We liaise with social workers, local authorities and other key agencies, including partner schools, to ensure smooth transition. Our guaranteed bursary scheme offers financial support, and we also offer a range of other support, including tutorials, counselling, and guidance from Entrust (previously Connexions) staff who are based within the College every day.

As a learner, you will have a designated Student Welfare Officer who will offer support for any personal concerns or issues and will communicate with your subject staff when necessary. You will also receive regular one-to-one reviews with your Personal Tutor to ensure that you are progressing well and you have challenging and achievable targets to work towards.

To find out more about the support we offer for young people in care or who have recently left care, please contact the College Designated Person for Looked After Children, Denise Haney by email at denise.haney@nulc.ac.uk or by telephone 01782 254249.
