Why College?

If you’re struggling to decide whether to stay on at your school sixth form or go to college, we’re here to help you make the right decision for you.

Here are some of the advantages of coming to NULC:

Bigger choice

We have a much wider choice of courses. You can choose to study A Levels from 33 different subjects and we have a wide range of vocational courses in a variety of subjects.

Specialist staff

Our teaching staff concentrate solely on the courses that they teach, and are therefore experts in their field!

We have a big team of people who are here to help keep you focused on achieving your goals.  You will have a Personal Tutor, with whom you will have formal progress performance reviews every half-term.  In addition, we have a network of specialist staff including Learner Managers and Career Advisors.

In 2013, we were rated as a ‘Good’ college with many ‘Outstanding’ areas which places us in the top ten of colleges inspected by Ofsted, and marks NULC as the only college in Staffordshire to have any ‘Outstanding’ provision.

Our students consistently achieve higher grades in A Levels and advanced vocational programmes than the national average.  This means that NULC is in the top 10% of further education colleges in the country.

In 2017, two-thirds of our A Level subjects enjoyed a 100% pass rate and 48.73% of entries achieved high grades (A*-B).  Our pass rate on vocational courses stood at 99.5%

Each year, more students from NULC go on to university than from any other college in Staffordshire.

College offers a different atmosphere to that of school. The environment is much more informal and students are given a lot more independence and treated more like adults. You probably won’t attend college every day, so it’s important that you dedicate study time to your days off.

Overall, 95% of our students are going on to university, an apprenticeship or employment.  For students wanting to study a university level course but don’t want the expense of moving away from home, we offer a number of foundation degree programmes in a variety of subjects.  We have a dedicated university centre for adult students.  View all university level courses.
