‘50’ is the theme of college art exhibition
20th June 2016
Members of the public are invited to view work by talented art, design and media students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) showcase their work in the college’s 50th year.
The annual end-of-year exhibition is open to the public on Saturday 25 June at the College’s open event between 10am and 2pm and then Monday 27 June to Thursday 30 June between 10am and 6pm and Friday 1 July between 10am and 4pm. The event is hosted at the College’s £60 million campus at Knutton Lane.
The annual event has risen in popularity over the years and welcomes hundreds of visitors, who are keen to discover the work of some of the most talented, creative students in Staffordshire.
The exhibition, simply entitled ‘50’, encompasses all creative subjects from the College’s art faculties, which includes fashion, film, illustration, 3D design, painting, ceramics, graphic design, media, music technology, photography, and textiles.
Mike Kelly, assistant head of faculty, academic and creative studies at the College, said “We chose the name ‘50’ this year to coincide with the College’s 50th Anniversary. It’s also a way of symbolising our staff and our student’s contribution to the visual arts industries over the decades.
“There are highlights in every course area across three floors with much of the work available to buy. Students have also submitted a series of pieces in a breakout exhibition where 50% of any monies raised will be donated to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.”
The College has a national reputation for the quality of its art and creative courses and its many successful former students, including Oscar winning special effects director Pete Bebb, Esme Talbot who designs her own Potteries slogan based products and the stars go-to designer Julian J. Smith.
In addition, it’s also the only one in Staffordshire to launch its own town centre enterprise in the form of the M.A.D.E Here shop. The shop provides students past and present with an opportunity to sell their products whilst gaining business and employability skills.
