College celebrating after being ranked amongst the top Colleges in England
19th June 2017
Recently published data has recognised Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) as the best all-round college in the region and one of two top colleges nationally to consistently rank in the top 10% of General Further Education (GFE) Colleges for overall achievement rates for 16-18 year old learners, adults and apprenticeships.
The results were highlighted in the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) national achievement rate tables, published on Thursday 16 June, and are based on the 2015-2016 academic year. Achievement rates are a measure of how many students completed and passed the course they studied. NULC’s achievement rate for 16-18 year old full-time learners during the last academic year stood at 87.6%, placing the College in the top spot in Staffordshire and South Cheshire and in the top 6% of Colleges nationally.
Achievement rates for adult learners (aged 19+) stood at 92.1%, placing NULC as the top performing GFE College in the West Midlands region for adult learners.
In addition, NULC boasts an outstanding performance in apprenticeship achievement with the College named as the top performing GFE institution in the West Midlands and ranked in 8th position nationally, from 212 institutions. Achievement rates for apprentices stand at 84.1%, 16% ahead of the national average.
NULC boasts a wide and varied range of Apprenticeship, A-Level and vocational courses covering a vast array of subject areas, from Accounting and Art through to Engineering and Public Services. Both A Level and vocational results exceeded the national average in 2016 and once again, NULC sent more students to university in than any other college in Staffordshire^.
Karen Dobson, Principal and Chief Executive of Newcastle-under-Lyme College said: “NULC has always prided itself on being a high performing institution and these statistics highlight that we're one of just two colleges in the entire country who feature in the top 20 performers under each key category. This means that whether you're a school leaver thinking of university or a career, an adult looking to improve your skills in the workplace or an employer wanting to invest in an apprentice, NULC should be your college of first choice.”
Karen continued: “To be positioned amongst the top colleges in England is a tremendous achievement and reflective of the hard work, passion and dedication of our students and staff.”
Prospective students wishing to find out more about studying at NULC are invited to attend the next NULC Open Event, which is taking place on Saturday 24 June between 10am – 12 noon.
