25th October 2016
Newcastle-under-Lyme College Hairdressing Lecturer, Greg Woolliscroft was shortlisted as a finalist in the Salon International, Hairdressers Journal Bridal Hairdresser of the Year competition, held at the ExCeL Centre in London on Sunday 16th October.
Greg took to the stage at this prestigious industry event and competed against five other finalists in the coveted bridal category which recognizes stylists who create beautiful hair for brides-to-be.
As well as working on a part-time basis at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, Greg owns a salon in Wolstanton. He entered the competition back in June, submitting a photograph of a contemporary bridal style featuring the latest in styling techinques. The competition finale required him to demonstrate his creative and technical skills as he recreated the style live on stage in front of industry critics and salon professionals.
Although he didn’t win the category, Greg was ‘highly commended’ by the judging panel and he received fantastic feedback from members of the audience. Commenting after the event, Greg said: “I entered a picture into the Hairdressers Journal 'UK Bridal Hairdresser of the Year' competition months ago but heard nothing back. I then got an e-mail telling me that I had been shortlisted to attend the finals to re-create the style I submitted. Although I didn’t win, I am so honoured to have reached the finals and I am flattered to have received such positive feedback from the audience members and judges.”
Salon International is one of the premier events in the hairdressing calendar and the event where the hairdressing industry launches the latest products, platforms seasonal trend collections, promotes equipment and hosts a series of interactive demonstrations, talks and competitions. Over 38,000 visitors attended the event, which ran from Saturday 15th October to Monday 17th October.
Carol Thomas, Director of Curriculum at Newcastle-under-Lyme College said: “Greg is an excellent lecturer who has shown great support and demonstrated both creativity and inspiration to countless students over the years, many of whom have gone on to forge successful careers in the hairdressing industry. We were delighted to learn that he was shortlisted as a finalist at Salon International and are very proud of his achievements in the final.”
