9th February 2017

First year apprentices Emily Wheeler, Chloe Rowley and Chloe Meir blew away the competition in the first year blow-dry category, finishing in first, second and third place respectively. Senior apprentice, Bethany Anderson finished in first place in the cut and blow-dry category and third place in the fantasy category and Emily Wright finished third in the ladies evening style category.

All five students will go now head-to-head with students from across the UK in the national finals, due to take place on Monday 13 March. The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support.  Members of the AHT include teachers, trainers or assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who are either working towards or currently hold teaching/assessing qualifications.

Anthony Keates, Head of Hairdressing & Beauty – Work Based Learning, at Newcastle-under-Lyme College said: “By competing in high profile regional competitions, our students gain valuable experience that they can use to help them progress in the workplace.  The students did themselves and the College proud and the latest collection of awards shows just how hard they have been working.”

He added: “We have had many award successes throughout the years at the AHT finals, and we are really looking forward to cheering everyone on at the ceremony in March.  We wish the whole team the very best of luck as they compete on the national stage.”
