14th February 2018
Hairdressing students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) are heading to the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) national finals in March after scooping five awards at the regional competition, held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on 5 February 2018.
First year apprentices Charlotte Rowe and Josh Doolan blew away the competition in the 1st Year Commercial Blow-dry, finishing in first and third place respectively. With second year Level 2 student Jadwiga Krawciec coming 1st in the 2nd Year Commercial Cut and Blow-dry. Second year apprentice, Rhona Breeze finished in second place in the Fantasy Hair and Makeup, dazzling the judges with her finished look. While Level 2 Hairdressing student, Hanan Al Samyaiy and Level 2 Beauty student Georgia Lyttleton teamed up to claim 1st place in the Team Bridal.
All six students will go now head-to-head with students from across the UK in the national finals, due to take place on Monday 12 March at the same venue. The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support. Members of the AHT include teachers, trainers or assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who are either working towards or currently hold teaching/assessing qualifications.
Liz Gibbons, Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing, at Newcastle-under-Lyme College said: “By competing in high profile regional competitions, our students gain valuable experience that they can use to help them progress in the workplace. The students did themselves and the College proud and the latest collection of awards shows just how hard they have been working.”
She added: “We have had many award successes throughout the years at the AHT finals, and we are really looking forward to cheering everyone on at the ceremony in March. We wish the whole team the very best of luck as they compete on the national stage.”
