Exciting new course unveiled at NULC’s Performing Arts Centre
11th February 2015
NULC has unveiled a brand new performing arts course that will run from September in the new state-of-the-art building on Knutton Lane.
Potential students can now choose to study for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Performing Arts that can lead to entry into university programmes, dance or drama school or employment directly in the industry.
The full-time programme starts in September and is taught over two years, where students will receive a Higher National Certificate (HNC) after successful completion in year one and a HND after successfully completing both years.
Tina McDonald, Performing Arts Centre Manager, said: “We are extremely excited by the new course as it will offer a progression route for all Level 3 students who are already studying in the new £5.5 million Centre which opened this month.
“Not only will the course give students more study options to pursue their career dreams, they will also have the opportunity to gain their qualifications in a building that is home to the latest state-of-the-art studios, as well as a 200-seat theatre for live performances.”
Students can choose to study either the dance or the acting pathway and will study mandatory units together in addition to specialised units in their chosen pathway.
Those who choose the dance pathway will work as part of the NULC Dance Company, where they will have the opportunity to devise their own work for
public performances and will be able to take additional dance exams throughout the course.
Acting pathway students will work as part of the NULC Acting Company who will work on commissions from schools and community groups as well as being part of a touring company, attending masterclasses and devising performances for live audiences.
Both pathways will receive help preparing applications to dance or drama school as well as support for auditions throughout their course from highly versatile tutors alongside guest lecturers with years of industry experience.
To apply for the HNC/ HND course students will need to have a BTEC Extended Diploma or A Levels.
The College also welcomes mature students and those with relevant experience but without formal qualifications. All prospective students will be auditioned and interviewed, where they will be asked to perform either a monologue or dance.
Upon successful completion of the course students can gain employment in a wide range of professions including acting, dancing, writing and performing or in roles supporting behind the scenes in television, theatre and film production.
Alternatively students can apply to dance or drama school or apply to university. Some students also choose to pursue a career in teaching.
