Staffordshire’s college of first choice opens its doors to school leavers
12th October 2016
Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) is holding a series of Open Events to help Year 11 school pupils choose the right course for their future career success.
The College will be opening its doors to prospective students and their families where NULC students will be on hand to provide tours of the state-of-the-art facilities and expert staff will be giving advice on the range of courses available.
The College’s first Open Event of the new academic year will take place on Monday 17 October from 5.30pm to 8pm at its Knutton Lane campus.
Karen Dobson, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “The aim of our Open Events is to provide school leavers with the full range of options available, so that they can make an informed choice about their future studies. Choosing the right College is an important decision, however, we are justifiably proud of our first-class facilities, broad course offering and support that we can offer to students, and would urge anyone considering going to college next year to come along, take a tour our campus and meet the team of expert staff who will be on hand to provide advice and guidance.”
Karen continued: “We had another fantastic academic year last year with a 98.6% pass rate on A Level subjects, with two-thirds of all subject areas achieving a 100% pass rate. We also celebrated strong results on our vocational courses, where we saw a 99.5% pass rate. We have an excellent track record in preparing students for employment, further education or higher education, indeed for several consecutive years we have sent more students to university than any other college in Staffordshire.”
Visitors touring the campus will get a feel for the College life by talking to current students and staff, getting involved in taster sessions and having demonstrations of the stunning academic, vocational, sports and music and performing arts facilities on offer.
Staff from the College will also provide guidance about the excellent range of support services on offer, from financial help and additional learner support to fun activities and enrichment opportunities. In its latest Ofsted Report, NULC was praised for providing “outstanding support and care for learners.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to win a family hamper, which will include a Kindle Fire. To enter the competition, visitors will have to collect 6 stamps at selected areas of interest within the College campus before posting their entry in the ballot box located in main reception.
NULC is one of the largest providers of 16-18 education in Staffordshire and offers every type of post-16 course, including AS/A Levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships.
Courses are available in a wide range of subjects including 33 different AS/A Levels plus vocational courses in Art, Design and Media, Beauty Therapy, Fashion, Business and Accounting, Childcare and Early Years, Computing and IT, Construction, Engineering, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Music, Performing Arts, Theatre Studies, Public Services, Sport and Travel and Tourism with Events.
